Solo Skate Around The Lake

Yesterday it was 45 degrees and sunny, snow melted and water on the lake, then the temp dropped and today it’s 25 snow flurries and the ice is good enough to skate on.  So for the first time since November I was able to to go around the lake, not in a kayak but on two blades.  Managed to skate around the whole lake without falling or falling though the ice.  Except for where there are springs, and rivers the ice is about six inches thick.  Ice fishermen were back out after removed their huts yesterday during the melt and before the freeze.

The ice is very clear and does not appear to be as thick as it really is, except for the cracks that show the thickness -would have been a little scary to skate in the deep parts out on the lake alone.  I did have the company of geese and swans at the Hell Creek river outlet.  I enjoyed the exercise and being outdoors.

I was the first in 2011 to skate around the lake and may be the last if the snows come before next weekend.  You have to take advantage of the conditions that nature presents.  I used some new video editing software, let me know if it it looks better than the other videos.  Please leave a comment.

I won’t comment on the editing yet (because I haven’t checked out your other videos lately) but the sound quality is really good, perhaps too good. I could hear every crunch of the ice as you skated!

  2. Yea, the mic is very sensitive, I had trouble controlling the wind noise. I will have to go back and listen to it myself again in a quiet place. Thanks for visiting and commenting.
